The Autumn Sunset is an intermediate-sized Encore Azalea that produces a great show of orange-red single form blooms with a splash of dark red freckles down the throat in spring, summer, and fall. The beautiful flowers contrast nicely against the dark, lustrous evergreen foliage. The Autumn Sunset remains hardy down to USDA zone 6b. Encore Azaleas are known for their ability to tolerate full sun better than traditional azaleas, so make sure to plant them in a location that will receive 4-6 hours of direct sunlight, with some shade during the afternoon heat. Autumn Sunset is great for growing in the landscape or container gardens and will perform best in slightly acidic, well-drained garden soil. The Autumn Sunset Azalea will grow to be about 3' feet tall at maturity with a spread of 3.5' feet in each direction, and in the proper conditions, it can live up to 40 years! Like most azaleas, it prefers slightly acidic soil between 5.5 and 6.5 pH. It is not uncommon for yellowing of the foliage to occur if the soil is too alkaline. We recommend allowing at least 2 feet between companion plants to show their natural form when planting.
